Barbara Zitterkopf (Allen)

Barbara K. Allen went home November 3, 2008.  A celebration of Barb's life was held November 7 at Fellowship Church in Fruita, CO followed by a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetary.

She was born in Scottsbluff, NE on July 23, 1942 to Archie and Clara Zitterkopf.  Her childhood was filled with farm life, raising animals and school.  In school she was voted best-dressed, best personality and most popular.

After graduating from Gering High School, she attended Reese and Cybil Beauty School in Lincoln, NE, where she received her cosmetology license and did some modeling.

Her first date with the love of her life, Ron Allen from Scottsbluff, was on April 19, 1960.  The married on October 7, 1962.  After setting up their home in Scottsbluff, Ron and Barb welcomed their only child, Scott Allen on November 27, 1963.

In November 1968, Barb and her family moved to Littleton, CO, where she worked in Tiffany's Beauty Salon utnil 1970.  Barbara became an office manager for a large dental group, where she obtained dental impressions from several Bronco football players.  She had them autograph the impresssions, after which she gave them to her son.While living in CO, Barb and her family enjoyed many outside activities like hunting, fishing and watching Bronco games.

Moving back to Gering in 1976, Barb opened up a ladies shoe boutique, Barb's Shoe Tree.  She put her great fashion sense and administrative gifts to great use, making available to the Panhandle of Western NE all the latest styles.  From 1979-1983, Barb worked for the City of Gering.

She then assisted her husband, Ron, in his business as an insurance agent for Bahkers Life and Casualty.  While assisting Ron, Barb decided to go to Western Nebraska College and graduated with a degree in Family Services.  She used her education to work at Social Services in Gering, helping many families in desperate need.

I November of 1992, Barbara and Ron moved to Grand Junction, CO.  Barb started volunteering at Fellowship Church, answering phone calls.  She was then asked to join the staff assisting teh worship pastor.  A few months later, Barb became Dr Hooper's personal assistant, administering the daily operations of Fellowship Church.  Barb loved taking care of Fellowship and the staff.  She always made sure that everything was in order, from meetings with the City Council to keeping the taxes straight.

Barb's favorite things to do were taking care of her family and her dog, Chocolate.  She loved interior decorating, visiting the town of Coeur D'Alene, ID and the ocean.  She loved to shop with Taylor, cook special dinners for Zach, which always included beef, potatoes and chocolate mousse pie and to listen to Devon play guitar and sing praise and worship.

Barb is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ron; son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Jen of Fruita, CO; brother Larry Zitterkopf of Gering; grandchildren, Devon Allen of Scottsbluff, Marine Lance CPL Zachary Allen of Yorktown, VA and Taylor Allen of Fruita, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

My dear best friend...for all those years...from 5 years old, on.  We shared all our silly thoughts,  our questions,  our fears and our dreams.  You'll always be part of my life...we just shared too many important years.
